Designed by Justin Richardson
"Eliza's Medicine," features a vintage 1898 photograph of six ancestors: the children of Alfred Richardson and his sister Eliza Louisa. Eliza Louisa, referred to as an "Indian medicine woman" in historical accounts, was the granddaughter of core Haliwa-Saponi ancestors Benjamin Richardson and Mary Bass (via Hardy Richardson and Dorcas Boone). Below the photo is "Indians Of The Meadows," the tribe's name before 1953. The photograph is framed by a vibrant, stylized border in black, white, yellow, red, green, and blue, drawn from Indigenous artistic traditions. This design honors Haliwa-Saponi heritage and the significant role of Eliza Louisa, while acknowledging the tribe's historical name.
